Dressed in “Boyd Black” cocktail attire, more than 150 members of the Alley Theatre’s Board of Directors, donors and their guests gathered at River Oaks Country Club in celebration of Gregory Boyd’s 25th Anniversary as the Alley Theatre’s Artistic Director on Tuesday, February 24.
The surprise guest was Hal Holbrook, acclaimed actor who has appeared in numerous Broadway productions, movies and several Alley productions and who is a close and dear friend of Gregory Boyd. The night kicked off with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails as guests mingled throughout the ballroom. Tables were elegantly decorated with “Boyd Black” tablecloths, alternating black and white chairs and chandelier-like centerpieces with candles and bouquets of red or white roses.
After a first course of wild mushroom bisque en croute, guests enjoyed a duo entrée dinner of prime beef filet with Barolo sauce, pan seared salmon with melted onions and leeks, chive whipped potato and roasted baby vegetables. To top off a delicious meal, double chocolate mousse cake with raspberry coulis—a favorite of the evening’s honoree—was served for dessert with a chocolate disk marked “GB 25”
Alley Theatre Managing Director Dean Gladden took the stage during dinner, serving as the emcee to introduce event co-chair Kathryn Ketelsen and special guests James Black and Theresa Rebeck as they each spoke about Gregory Boyd and his outstanding contributions to the Alley Theatre over the last 25 years. The honoree himself then took the stage to thank the Alley Theatre, Dean Gladden, James Black and the resident company, as well as the wonderful chairs who organized the event.
