Event Spotlight } The Secret Garden Gala

Child Advocates of Fort Bend (CAFB) held The Secret Garden Gala on Saturday, May 2 at The Marriott Hotel Ballroom in Sugar Land.

Over 600 people attended to support the organization that works to make a difference in the life of a child. The honorary chairs were Rhonda and Tommy Kuykendall, Mayor and First Lady of Fulshear.

Kuykendall spoke of their commitment to assist with child abuse and their personal experience. CEO Ruthanne Mefford shared that every 8 seconds, a child in Texas is the victim of abuse.

“Children who have been abused and are left untreated have a higher incidence of mental illness, homelessness, substance abuse and criminal activity making a difference in the life of a child,” said Mefford.

The evening began with a silent and live auction and concluded with dinner and dancing to tunes spun by DJ Maniac.
