Mattie’s Dishes Out Rustic Farm-Fresh Fare & Texas Hospitality

Nick Simonite

La Corsha Hospitality Group has taken over the iconic Green Pastures landmark and renamed it Mattie’s after Martha “Mattie” Miner Faulk, mother of the original restaurant’s founder, Mary Faulk Koock.

The space has been brightened with updated furniture and the tablecloths removed for a modern country aesthetic. Instead of all Texas staples, chef Josh Thomas is dishing out more pan-Southern dishes such as crispy trout over low-country Sea Island ragout; basmati rice bowl with coconut curry and roasted vegetables; spicy gumbo with smoked pork; and, for brunch, homemade biscuits with fried chicken, poached eggs and hollandaise.

Appetizers hit the comfort zone: Try the chicken liver pate with apple chutney or the creamy pimiento cheese with Irish cheddar.
