The Nutty Benefit

A Dutch study suggests eating a handful of nuts a day could substantially lower the risk of earlier death due to cancer, diabetes, respiratory and neurodegenerative diseases.

Maastricht University researchers found a 23 percent lower chance of premature mortality during the 10-year study in people eating at least 10g (0.3 oz) of nuts or peanuts a day.

Nuts are chock full of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids, various vitamins, fiber, antioxidants and other bioactive compounds. Peanut butter, high in salt and trans fats, proved no benefit.
