Well Traveled, Well Collected

Collecting mementos is a wonderful way to be reminded of great travel experiences. However, don’t get suckered into the typical souvenirs of figurines and snow globes, as there are many better choices that can easily integrate into your design style.

Think local when hunting for travel treasures by visiting art galleries and town markets to see what local items can be unearthed. Sweet grass baskets in Charleston, Murano glass and table linens in Italy, beer steins in Germany and funky vintage lamps in Austin can easily be incorporated into your decor.

Get creative when determining how best to display your travel treasures. For instance, sea glass could be placed in a hand-blown glass bowl, allowing guests to see and touch them. This provides the perfect conversation piece and an opportunity to share travel memories without boring guests with the traditional photo journal. Sand from exotic beaches can be decanted for a summer tablescape or grouped into a unique design in a picture frame. Your home should be a collection of memories with souvenirs on display for all to enjoy. Seeing them on a regular basis is like being greeted by old friends.
