Whose Health is Benefiting from Coffee?

The health benefits of coffee have been percolating for years—among them a decrease in risk for stroke and Type 2 diabetes. Now habitual java drinkers can add longevity to a brewing list of evidence that coffee has its perks.

Researchers at Harvard School of Public Health found that people who drank three to five cups of coffee per day had about a 15 percent lower risk of premature mortality compared to people who didn’t drink coffee.

Results from the study recently appeared in the journal Circulation, but critics of the study say it only demonstrates an association between coffee and longevity, not cause and effect.
