Teens currently involved in the non-profit organization greeted guests as they entered the venue, thanking them for their support. The ballroom was a festive “birthday” celebration with petite birthday cakes and a hallway decorated to commemorate the history of Young Life.
Honorary chairmen Kim and Chuck Watson discussed the importance of the event in raising funds to reach youth in under-resourced areas with the message of the Gospel. Lee Strobel, former award-winning legal editor of The Chicago Tribune and now a New York Times best-selling author of more than twenty books, was the guest speaker. Strobel spoke on how he came to know Christ personally and how Young Life meets kids where they are, as they are and shows them the love of Christ.
The evening’s proceeds kept the energy going as auction paddles raised in the air to help send kids to camp for the “best week of their lives.” Media personality Coppelia Rivera emceed the event announcing the success of over $600,000 raised.
Funds from the event will benefit Young Life Greater Houston Region multicultural ministry, which focuses on reaching kids in diverse communities and those in economically depressed areas including Houston’s Third and Fifth Wards.
